What's Happening?

This past week has been a blur of nothing at all, and everything at once.

Kevin is training again for yet another marathon. When he trains, I get more kid time, so I guess in that sense we both participate.

Ian has successfully completed 2 days of middle school. He caught the bus both ways, maneuvered changing classes, and buying lunch in a crowded cafeteria. If you know Ian, you know that none of these feats is without merit. He has a hard time with change, and is coping really well. He is well into the pre-season practice for football. He is liking it a lot, and I think he seems to be having an easier time with the equipment, so that makes it easier on me!

Haldey is still gunning through the potty training. She is totally parent trained. If I take her to the potty all day long, and whenever I think she needs to go, she has no accidents. If I wait for her to ask, the carpet fares poorly....
She started dance, and LOVES it. I am happy to report she is one of the best listeners in the class. She does whatever the teacher asks, and does not roam aimlessly like many of her classmates.

Ella, Holly, and Jilly started first grade. They all report loving their teachers, and having friends in their classes. They are anxious for their big 6 birthday which is next Sunday. We are having a mermaid party at the pool.
Ella and Holly are really liking their dance teacher. I held Holly back to stay with her sisters for one more year in the first level. She is cocky, but since she was really young last year for the class, I think she is where she needs to be. Jilly begged me to sign her up this time too. I got her the final spot! She took the class, behaved, smiled politely, and told me that she hates dance the minute she came out. Since the first 9 weeks are paid for, she dances until they are up. If, after that, she does not want to do it, we will give her an out.
Cheerleading starts next week. They will be cheering for the second grade Dallas Cowboys at their school. Each of them is excited, but has little confidence that their coaches, (me and my neighbor) know what we are doing.

That brings me to me. I am now a cheer coach. I know NOTHING about cheerleading. I do, however, seem to be able to find the right great people, so I am hoping that head-coach Monica pulls out some great dance/cheer moves, or that we can find a teenage helper. We both took a class this morning on how to spot a child molester to help us protect the team, so we have that going for us. After we change the uniforms to burkas, and have them cheer behind an enclosed privacy panel, the moves should not matter much anyway. I am settling into the fall routine, of backpacks, gym shoes, activities, and earlier bedtimes. In a few weeks I return to Bible Study, and will add Wednesday night family nights at church, as well as Ian's all-consuming swim schedule to the mix. I may resurface sometime around the holidays...

Look for me on my cell!
