Nothing like the Limelight

Today we joined our church. After 5 years of looking for the right place, we stumbled upon a place that feels right for the 7 of us. We met 10 minutes early for a family photo, which Jilly would not take. She just kept burying her head and telling me that she did not want a picture taken. Neither did I, but I sucked it up. I am sure it is a real doozy!

We then got to parade our crew to the front pew to wait the ceremonial part of the service. It is always an experience to march to the front of anywhere with 5 kids. Nothing like being on display.

When it was time to head up on the altar, Kevin and I, and the kids, and Dora's mommy and Daddy doll all got to make the trip. Hadley had no interest in leaving them behind in the pew. There were about five families joining, so it took a while to make the introductions. Hadley took that time to scope out the communion supplies. "I have one?" "Hadley have one bite?" "I want a cracker!" all competed with the introductions, questions, and prayer.

Once the service was over we stood in a line outside of the sanctuary to receive all the members of the church. It was nice to meet everyone, and hear all the welcomes. I think the consensus is that we "sure have our hands full!" I agree. Our 5 kids used the parent distraction time to clean the church out of doughnuts, and lemonade that we normally limit to one each. Even Hadley can tell when we are safely preoccupied enough for her to treat herself to unlimited junk food....

Tummys and bladders ready to bust, we took our 5 newly received Presbyterians home for a long day of running off energy, and waiting for the sugar crash. I think even with the shenanigans we heard enough "beautiful family" compliments to feel secure that the excommunication is not soon to come. We are home at last.
