Those who know me know that I find the girls' dance school a little over the top.. Maybe I am just old, or small town, but it some of the stuff they do there is a little kooky.
Exhibit #1: They start grooming the kids they want to advance as dancers when they are 2. I am not kidding. This is not some bitter mom who is upset that her child was bypassed for the mini company program. I have no qualms telling you that none of the triplets is skilled in the world of dance. They enjoy it, but will not be heading to Julliard post high school.
Exhibit #2: Now this is rumor, but has roots from a good source. The best dancer in last year's recital, the kind of girl who should have no problem making the Cowboy cheer squad next year, quit because the owner of the studio made her choose between going to be on her senior homecoming court, or making 100% of practice for dance. She walked, and chose to be a regular teenager--crazy huh?
Exhibit#3: if your child makes one of the competitive teams, you are not allowed to vacation on spring break. You as the parent, cannot have your child miss any practices, even if they are 6 years old, to go out of town....
Exhibit #4: The teams all wear bedazzled north face jackets. I know that seems petty of me, but come on.
Hadley is in the 2-3 class, and her teacher has approached me no less than 3 times to tell me how Haldey has "special" feet, or is a great listener, or a perfectionist, which = dancer, by the way. I know that these compliments are in effort to groom me as the parent into putting Hadley in more than one class next year, not a true measure of the child's "talent". This is how the program works. Tell the nutty mom that her child has been "noticed" and she will spend $$ to develop the special potential. Too bad this mom is broke, and cannot, even if I wanted to "develop her full potential" ( if she is really mine and Kevin's child, dance will be hard for her to achieve in)....
Today Hadley fell from grace. She flopped on the floor of the dance studio screaming, and telling her teacher to stay away from her for the entire class. She really acted, well three. Easy there people, before you point out how maybe she is stressed, or not having fun, she loves ballet class. It is a fun, cute little class that mixes coordination, listening skills, and performance. While the school is a bit nutty, they do a nice job making sure it is fun at the younger ages. Normally she is all smiles. This is a post about her fall, not an analysis of the class itself. You could see on her teacher's face that she was not impressed. She may not be getting the recruitment calls anymore. Her day in the sun is over. I think we might have to move now if she wants to continue her career.---Oh well....
