Take away all my hippie stuff I sold out!

For the first time in my life I voted --gasp-- republican! Maybe it is that I am now on the upper side of 35......

I would not have ever seen myself as a democrat, in fact, I am a registered independent, as I think the party system is a mess, and would rather not align myself on either side of the line.

This has been an interesting election to say the least. I have many more conservative friends than I ever realized, and a few that are more liberal than I thought as well, but politics aside I think we are all still friends....

The one thing that I know for sure is that I am shocked by the number of people who tend to vote on one issue alone. Even worse are those that vote on one issue that really doesn't matter. Take my loving husband, for example, he voted for a local who's opponent kept leaving recorded messages on his work phone. About a week ago, after his absentee ballot was safely cast, the very candidate he voted for started sending auto-dial messages. UMMM KARMA?

I am also appalled at the things that people tell their children. My friend's little boy came home from first grade distraught because his classmate told him one candidate is for killing babies, and the other is not. Come on people, that is a bit much! I think it is easy to see that I have 5 kids, so I am probably not planning an abortion any time soon, but to teach a little kid to spew such political jargon before they even understand what pregnancy means is a step to far. Kind of like shooting a doctor who performs abortions in order to prevent murder.

Then there are those who argue that Cindy McCain spends too much on clothing and jewelry. I would think that even a democrat would think it is okay for her to spend whatever money she has left after giving most of it up in taxes however she sees fit right? Or perhaps the argument that Obama is a secret terrorist because of his middle name. I'd hardly think his mother was prepared enough back when he was born to associate him with a group of future destroyers.

My point-I guess I really don't have one other than to say that I voted, even though my vote wasn't likely to mean much, other than showing the kids that it is a right/responsibility for every American who wants to later b**ch about hergovernment.

You've always been my favorite triplet mom. ;)

Seriously though, I liked your post a lot. I agree with your issue about what people say to their kids. The abortion issue is our face here every day because of the location of PP. We have luckily been able to avoid a detailed explanation with the boys, but I know more questions will be coming soon. I definitely plan on passing along my beliefs and morals to my kids, but they are definitely not ready to think about the abortion issue yet. I'm not ready to burst their bubble about the real world just yet.

I am in a similar boat. I am a registered democrat, probably because I was forced to choose a side in the 8th grade and it has stuck with me since then; however, yesterday I voted for more republicans than I have in my whole life.

Our kids voted too. The school made an enormous deal over the entire voting process. Not so much the issues, but the importance of voting. As most of our children voted for John B-Cain (yes, that's what they call him), only one voted for BarakObama (all one word). And even though he thinks its cool that he won, we are stressing the fact that everyone gets a vote.

Once again, its always great to read your blog. We miss you.

Man, you hit home. The kids had a mock election at school. Creighton said he voted for Obama. I asked why and he said, "because Hunter did". And Colby said she voted for McCain. I again asked why and she said...ready for this..."because _____ said that Obama is part of the group that bombed the twin towers". Needless to say, it is an adult in her life (not a family member--thank goodness)that told her this. So glad I asked otherwise I would have had no idea she had that idea in her head. Can you believe that an adult would tell a child that?? Especially a child that doesn't even belong to them. I am doing a good enough job ruining my children, I don't need any help! :)

Anyway, I stewed about that all day today. Amazing how tarnishing this world can be to a precious child's innocent little mind.

Thanks for listening :)

Aubrey got to vote at school too.....she picked Obama....her reasoning? Because he had a boy helper running with him instead of that girl helper!

She went with me to vote and lets just say that she didn't like my choice! Seems she's learning to read and I didn't need to tell her who i was voting for! She just knew from which name i filled in the little circle at.
