I don't even know where to begin. It has been a long, and fantastic day. Neither Kevin nor I can remember a time in recent history when opening gifts was so fun. Having 5 little ones has some advantages. They were all very excited at the prospect of presents, and Ian was especially appreciative of every item. We attended church this morning as usual, but there was no Sunday school, so the girls were in a different room than normal, throwing Jilly completely out of whack. We made a quick beeline for Wendys to get them fed so we'd get naps in before this evening. After naps I gave the picture thing one last try, and I have to say they are okay. In a few years they will look fine, but tonight I am wishing for that miracle picture that has all of my kids looking their best.
Moving on to the presents was a thrill for the kiddos. They took turns, and enjoyed everything the others opened as well. Jill generously helped Ella and Holly tear the paper from each of their packages, and Ian opened the few that Hadley received.
Tonight is bittersweet. While Ian is anxiously awaiting Santa, he is conflicted. Santa will be picking up Zeb he elf, and Ian is concerned that Jilly will be getting lumps of coal. It is a beautiful thing that while he talks such a tough game, he is truly a softie in the end, not wishing bad things, even on the most challenging of his sisters.
Yesterday we began the Christmas celebrations with a brief trip to the quad cities to see Kevin's family. It was a fun day. with the highlight being the new dress-up clothes that Grandma made the girls. Holly insisted on wearing hers all evening tonight, and she was sad to take it off even to eat. I am posting a picture of that crew of kids for this entry, since I have already showed you today.
Merry Christmas everyone.
Theresa
