It’s the small stuff…. When we plan a vacation, we generally budget a large portion for lodging, as we have all these kids that are no longer able to fit in a regular hotel. Take the standard Hilton price, and double it for the cost of 2 rooms the hotel requires. We almost always stay in an embassy suites, mostly because they let us get 1 room, but also because we know what we will be getting. Once in a while we venture out of the norm, and choose a place unfamiliar. This was one of those times. We are currently at the San Destin Golf Resort . It is a beautiful 2 bedroom condo 200 yrds from the ocean, with 19 pools, and it’s own little village of shops, dining, and entertainment. Doesn’t it sound divine? It did to us, but then it did not take long once we got here to start feeling like we were in an episode of candid camera.
Upon our early arrival, we checked to see if we would be able to check in before the 4 pm stated time. They assured us that there should be no problem, they’d call Kevin’s cell just as soon as they were ready for us. After hours of shopping, eating, swimming, checking, and waiting, we were able to check in about 45 min late. I guess that we should not hold that against them, but it seems that they could have either said it would not be ready, or put it as a priority.
No biggie, we went ahead and had ourselves a great evening of food, drink, and dancing. ( Oh yeah and airbrush tattoos) A late night swim topped the night, and we were all ready to turn in exhausted. It is not a simple thing to put the 10 yr old to bed in a pull out couch with a wadded up dirty blanket, complete with it’s own leftover Trojan wrapper. Oh my gosh—it is one thing to leave a dirty glass in the sink, or forget to replace the towels, but eeeeewwwwww!!!! The last thing I want when I stay at a hotel is proof of what just went on in the bed I am about to put my child into. That one earned us a FREE night.
We toughed through that one with a sheet change, and extra layers. Today started promising. I called about parasailing. The kids are all able to go, just come on down to the beach. Except the beach is closed due to bad weather somewhere off the coast of Mexico. After the threat by the cop guy to fine each of us 100.00 for standing next to the water to get buckets filled for sand, we took the kids to the pool for a while. I should mention that getting Ella to go on the beach after Ian swore he saw a crab there was kin to getting her to go to the neighbor’s house when Lucy the ferocious cocker spaniel is out of her cage. (there was lots of wailing)
After the pool, the boys did a wave runner tour, and the girls shopped and lunched. We met up to ride the zipline, and do eurobungee. Ian and Kevin went across the zipline. Ian zipped right across the 75 yrd line and was waiting to zip back once Kevin got across. That was not to be as easy as we would think. He got stuck! Almost exactly ½ way across the thing came off the cable. He was sent out the rescue rope, and they were able to get him down. At this point this type of stuff is starting to become expected here…..
The kids enjoyed kids karaoke tonight in the village, which included the musical stylings of Ella, Holly, and Jilly singing “The Wheels on the Bus” . They were bummed to go to sleep tonight after only a nice bath, rather than a late night swim that they are starting to expect. We are praying for smaller waves tomorrow, and a great ocean front day then it’s on to Disney World. I’ll keep you posted… (pictures won't load. I'll try again tomorrow)
