Mother_son time

Tonight was the mother-son dance at Ian's school. Over 100 rowdy little boys running around a gym hopped up on candy lets you see some things. I am a little torn. On the one hand, Ian was awesome. (even asked his old mother for a dance or two) He really is well behaved in these situations, compared to other kids his age. On the other hand, it is difficult to see him struggle to find his place. It seemed like everyone had a buddy there, except him. None of his close friends were there, and he spent a fair amount of time wandering around looking for people to hang with. He is great at making a casual friend on vacation, but when everyone is already paired up, he seems to sit it out a lot. By the end of the night he had organized a group of kindergarteners to play a pass the balloon game. It was really sweet, but made me wonder if we have stumped him socially by keeping him home too much with all these little kids. Parental guilt: does it ever end??
