In true family style, we headed for the Dells to start this week. The kids were so excited that Jilly was in my bed at 5 am on Sunday asking if it was morning yet. Car full of snacks, swimsuits, and electronic entertainment, and we were off. After two days of water park, pottery painting, laser tag, arcade time, play land, and lots of walking, I am ready for a vacation from the vacation. We left Hadley at home with my parents, thanks to them for that. We took Kevin's parents with us, thanks to them for that. I don't know how the trip would have worked without all of these elements. We really needed lots of eyes and arms on the trip, and we also needed our youngest, busiest child safe at home.
Now that there was an empty seat in the car, we invited a neighbor kid to come along and keep Ian busy. It is hard for him to be with three 4 yr olds all the time. It was odd having two boys (which is definitely twice the testosterone), but it was a perfect match.
My take on the Wisconsin Dells is that other than it being an easy 3 hr drive, and easy to get a reservation, it holds little advantage to a full fledged Disney trip in terms of cost. Every corner is another activity that costs money, and holds great attraction for the kids. It was a very fun two days, but not the way I would want to spend all of my free time.
