Ian, Kevin, and I competed in the 5K Gallop in Aurora this morning. It was actually easier than the first one that we did a few weeks ago. It would have been easier still if I could kick the insomnia that I have been dealing with for the past couple weeks. It is taking me forever to go to sleep, and I usually give up, end up on the couch, and finally fall asleep there only to share it a few hours later with some four year olds who feel like they have about 8 legs each.
Complaints aside, I was not looking forward to an early morning run in 30 degree weather, but it was really nice to do something with my "boys" and the run itself was a trail in a park which was very pleasant. Since we have gotten home all I have wanted to do is nap, and watch TV. Ian, on the other hand, has been playing basketball in the driveway since we got back. ahhh the joys of youthful muscles.....
Ian had an impressive finish taking 4th place in the boys under 14 division with none of those beating him being younger than 12. He is really starting to enjoy the idea that there is a track team once he hits middle school. I dropped a little time bringing me under the 40 minute mark, and Kevin, although still having his butt handed to him by the 10 yr old, was able to break 29 minutes. In a couple of weeks we are toying with the idea of having the girls enter a 3k family run/walk. I am pretty sure that with a little coaxing that Ella and Holly can go the distance, and Kevin and Ian better watch out because there is nothing like Jilly being free to run in a crowd, and especially if she feels that she is getting away with something. (aggravating her brother)
Tomorrow we are off to the Wisconsin Dells to enjoy the indoor waterpark circut. I know that even the dieting can't save me in a swimsuit after the long months of winter. I just hope the people remember their shades, or I may just blind them with my pale hue. We'll report back next week.
