Ian has a totally over-the-top fear of helium balloons getting away. It is to the point that he tries to steer us away from restaurants where the girls will get balloons, or tries to pay them off so they don't take one. He knows that the fear is irrational, and understands that it does not really matter if one does get away, but he still struggles with this, and it is a long-standing family joke when balloons are present, he becomes the gestapo about getting to the car/house with all of them.
Today he took a new approach. He calmly decided to accept a balloon for himself so that there would be a spare when one got lost. When Ella let hers go in the family room (21 foot ceiling) he stepped up and "replaced" the casualty. Then looked at me smugly and said "SEE".......
I guess adaptation is all part of growing up.
