Without copying Kelly, completely, but quite a bit :) I have been asked, and asked what I think of this situation, so here it is America, I have spoken, you can quit asking.....
I think it is a sad situation. It is sad that the kids have to grow up in that situation.
It is sad that the Mom was missing something so fundamental that she felt the urge to do this.
It is sad that the doctor was so irresponsible.
It is sad that we as a society care more about nailing her to the wall, than helping the babies. They are here folks, let's make the best of it. (by that I do not mean millions in TV shows)
most of all it is sad for those of us with beautiful IVF babies who now face even more criticism from ignorant, yes I meant to say ignorant, people who feel they can judge the pain that infertility brings. They can decide "what they would never do" in my situation. They can look at my three beautiful babies as if there is something less natural, or human about them than their own. They judge the decision my educated spouse and I made to have a family this way. They assume that we went over God's head in creating them when we were obviously meant to "be infertile" (I think that it assumes a lot to think that God is not bigger than all of us, and did not create my children whether it be in my home or the lab.) These same ignorant people think I just casually decided to go above the head of our creator, and do whatever I wanted to have babies. They say these things without love and without having heard the thousands of prayers I said for these very children both before, during, and after our very successful IVF cycle.
This situation brings the very nature of assisted reproduction into the spotlight so that everyone gets to determine the "rightness" of the situations of each couple, and "vote" on the morality of the situation. You don't see the fertile couples who have no business being parents lining up for speculation. It is very easy to decide what you would not do when you are pregnant every time you turn around without much effort.
As far as the octomom? There will always be someone willing to throw themselves in the spotlight as token freakshow. If it wasn't her, it would have been someone, but leave me out of this......
