You can't take the hillbilly out of the boy

Apparently Kevin has passed a carnie gene to Ian. I know this because the two of them absolutely rule at playing the games at Adventureland. I am really terrible at these same games, so I think it is fair to give this gene credit to Kevin's family. We left the amusement park yesterday with 11 stuffed toys (of carnival quality), a rubber ball, and 2 blow up bats. Just what every house needs right? Ian is so thrilled to be "skilled" at knocking down plastic teeth, and guessing how fast he can pitch measured by carnival radar. At least we can say that Kevin is good at shooting baskets, and putting golf balls.

We LOVED our annual trip to central Iowa, for memorial day weekend. It means a day of play at the small amusement park, lots of pool time in the hotel, and more days off of housework, and cooking. The girls were fearless, riding everything they were tall enough for, and after one brief puking incident, Ian toughed out the roller coasters without blinking an eye.

Another surprise was that all three girls can swim. Not just the 4-5 feet that I thought that Holly could go, but all over the pool on their stomach, and backs. They have just taken off, making it evident that the $ we have spent on the private swim sessions were well worth it. Every week I watch as they try to make progress in their lesson, and feel a little sorry for Holly and Ella who do not seem to coordinate the movements that it takes to make a lot of forward progress. I guess what they really needed was playtime. Left to their devices, they were very confident, and at ease in the water. Look out swim team, next summer there is most of a 5 yr old relay team ready to roll!

Now you just need to set up carnival games in your neighborhood with those stuffed animals -- Ian could make a fortune!
